Teeblogi: Blogissa on ollut vähän taukoa kun olen ollut matkoilla, mutta nyt homma jatkuu ihan uudella kategorialla: vuorossa on nimittäin ensimmäinen kiinalainen oolong. Se Chung on oikein mukava tuttavuus monella tasolla – alkaen suurikokoisista lehdistä (kannattaa katsoa tarkemmin haudutettuja lehtiä kun ne ovat avautuneet täyteen kokoonsa), joiden hienon paahteisesta tuoksusta tulee mieleen puu. Suosittelen käyttämään normaalia enemmän lehtiä, jotta teen maku tulee kunnolla esiin – 2 tlk per kuppi on sopiva (lusikka ei itse asiassa ole paras väline teen mittaamiseen, koska riippuen lehtien koosta lusikkaan mahtuva teen määrä vaihtelee – rikottuja tai pienikokoisia lehtiä mahtuu lusikkaan paljon enemmän kuin suurikokoisia. Tämän takia tosiharrastajat käyttävät vaakaa teen mittaamiseen, jolloin lehtien määrä per kuppi on aina vakio). Juomassa on haaleasta väristään yllättävän voimakas puumainen tuoksu. Myös maku on täyteläinen ja hieno sekoitus paahteisuutta, puumaisuutta ja pehmeyttä. En huomannut suurta eroa haudutusten välillä, mutta lehdistä tulee helposti ainakin kolme haudutusta. Se Chung on helposti lähestyttävä oolong ja sopii hyvin ruuan kanssa nautittavaksi, mutta on mainiota myös sellaisenaan.

Teeblogi says: I’ve been away recently so blogging has been bit sporadic lately but now I’m back and with a new category: Chinese oolong! Se Chung is a nice oolong on many levels, starting with the leaves that are large (it’s worth having a closer look on the infused leaves to see them in their fully opened splendour) with a toasty and woody aroma. I recommend using more leaves than normal to get a flavoursome brew – 2 tsp per cup is good (actually a spoon is not the best instrument to measure tea due to the fact that depending on the size of the leaves the amount that fits in a spoon varies – there will be more broken or small leaves in a spoon than larger ones. This is the reason purists like to measure the leaves with scales – it allows you have always the same amount of leaves per cup). The tea has a surprisingly full-bodied aroma and taste compared to the pale colour. The taste is a nice mixture of woody and toasty notes while being very smooth at the same time. I didn’t notice big difference between the infusions but the leaves give you easily at least three infusions. Se Chung is an easily approachable oolong that goes nicely with food but it also a delight on its own.
